An albarelo is a type of ceramic jar, originally used to hold apothecaries' ointments and dry drugs. This one is handpainted with a decorative Mexican scene.

 

Jesus Guerrero Santos is a Master Artisan from Guadalajara, Jalisco whose art is a combination of hand-painted high-temperature ceramics and metal. He was born in San Martin Hidalgo, Jalisco on February 14th, 1939. His work has been featured all over the world in museums and galleries. Many of his pieces have been commissioned by the Vatican, including pieces made especially for Pope John Paul II during his visit to Mexico for the canonization of St. Juan Diego.
